Fixed Courses from Easter to August 2019

This term brings with it another round of fabulous fixed courses. Here are a few descriptions of the courses, but we offer about twice as many as you see here! With such a wide range of activities for the learning partners to choose from, we’re positive they will have a blast in Hort!

In Glück and Happiness, Frau Hermann guides the learning partners in discovering what makes them happy. Throughout the course they have been collecting memories and little trinkets to put in their own “happiness box”. This box can help them anytime they feel sad.

Ms. Strataki is helping our little journalists discover their inner reporter instincts. The Newspaper Course is working towards publishing their own newspaper for all of JVC. The newspaper will include interviews, editorials, and maybe even some advertising!

The learning partners are expanding their rocket knowledge beyond NASA in Rocket Club. Miss Snow is showing them all different kinds of rockets and how to construct them on their own. From paper rockets to balloon rockets, bottle rockets, and more, the sky is the limit! Our engineers are even learning a bit about how the laws of aerodynamics affect rocket flight.

In Picasso Painters, Ms. Weber is teaching the learning partners the various ways to become a famous artist. So far they have painted with balloon popping, blowing bubbles, and string pulling. We are all looking forward to seeing which creative and engaging methods the learning partners experiment with next.

As the dungeon master, Frau Schmalholz leads the learning partners through a magical world full of danger and adventure in Das Schwarze Auge. Each learning partner creates their own character to play and they build the story of their adventure with each course. Who knows if they will win the challenge or set off on a new adventure by the end of the course!

In Domino, Herr Hammerl and the learning partners create complex systems of toy bricks laid out together to make fun domino designs. Of course the most fun part if knocking one domino down and watch them all fall! We sure hope that by the end of the course, the participants will treat us all to a demonstration.

Ms. Tatsidou is giving the Hort learning partners a course in Movie Making! With each course, the learning partners build on a story that they have created. They make movies by taking hundreds of pictures and putting them together in a slideshow, just like claymation. These movies are without clay but full of creativity and imagination.

Girls often aren’t so keen on joining a game full of boys playing their favorite sport. Ms. Tatsidou has created a safe space for girls who love or are interested in sports. Each course offers a different sport for the girls to play. This creates a safe environment for the girls to build their skills and feel comfortable competing with anybody.

With such a wide variety of courses, we can’t wait to see what the learning partners will get up to in the coming weeks.
